About the sequences

And the method of production.

These are sequences I have made myself and were originally recorder arrangements of music from rennaissance, arrangements of tunes from Playford's Dancing Master and some traditional tunes - mostly English and Scottish. They had their origin in a wish to produce accompaniments for my recorder and for that purpose I record them without the recorder part and play them back through an amplifier. However, in more recent times, the traditional music has become the largest group as I have rediscovered an interest in English and Scottish traditional songs and tunes.

To playback the sequences, you need a plug-in for your browser. I recommend VanBasco's Karaoke player , available for free download. This is an excellent player with features over and above those found in most MIDI players.

the sequences were notated using Noteworthy composer, a notation editor which generates MIDI files. It's very easy to use, is shareware, reasonably priced and available to download from their website. Although Noteworthy is essentially a notation program, it has a powerful feature called multipoint controller which allows you to enter MIDI controller events into the music, giving the potential for much better playback through MIDI. Originally I used to export the music to MIDI and edit in a sequencer (Cubasis). However, the multipoint controller facility makes that less necessary now.

For recording as accompaniments, I play the midifiles through an external MIDI device. Any good quality home keyboard will serve. However, I have a Yamaha MU15 MIDI module. This module does not have a built in keyboard which makes it much cheaper than a keyboard of equivalent quality. It supports General MIDI, the Yamaha XG extensions and has built in effects. The quality of the sounds it produces is excellent and it is very good value for money. To record the tracks, I either use a mini disk recorder or a CD writer either of which gives me recordings which can be played back through a suitable Hi Fi or PA system.

If you have further information, wish to correct something or simply share an interest in the music, please contact me.

These are grouped into three sets in each in a zip file.
